Woking Great Big Green Week

GreatBigGreenWeek2

WEAct will be arranging a series of activities and events as part of the Great Big Green Week, a national campaign celebrating action against climate change, from 24 September to October 2, 2022.

The first Great Big Green Week took place in September 2021, and was the largest event for climate and nature ever seen in the UK.  More than 200 Local Green Weeks celebrated local activity, raised the profile of climate change and showed why climate action is relevant to community and local decision makers. Here in Woking, WEAct co-ordinated a  programme of events for the week including Net-Zero Visioning Walks, Biodiversity Volunteering Days and a climate debate with local MP Jonathan Lord.

This year we are theming our Great Big Green Week around ‘Woking Takes the Jump’ and encouraging residents and businesses within Woking to sign up to one or more of six life shifts, thereby taking a jump into a more sustainable life that protects the earth.  The six shifts are:

  • Ending clutter by keeping products for at least seven years
  • Traveling fresh – if possible, no personal vehicles
  • Eating green – moving to a plant based diet
  • Dressing Retro – by purchasing only three new items of clothing per year
  • Holidaying locally – one flight every three years
  • Changing the system – at least one life shift to nudge the system

We would particularly encourage events/initiatives linked to the Jump Shifts, – you can find out more details here.

We want to make Woking Great Big Green Week 2022 bigger and better than last year’s- and that’s why we are contacting local organisations, businesses and community groups to join us by organising an event, display or other initiative during the week.

National organisations, institutions, businesses and media outlets will join in, getting more people involved up and down the country, and putting pressure on the UK Government to up its game on climate change.

If you would like to  arrange an event, please download the Event Organiser’s Guide and get in touch so that we can promote it as part of Woking’s activities.
