Operation Owl is Woking’s owl conservation project.
In the UK, owl populations are in decline, due to changes in land management. Protecting their habitats is important for their survival. Previously, owls would nest in old trees or old barns, but these are often removed these days. Owl boxes have become increasingly important for owls to use as nests.
In the last five years, WEAct’s Operation Owl has installed 22 owl boxes in various locations around Woking. We’re now keeping an eye on them, looking out for signs of owls using the boxes.
For more information or to get involved as an owl nest box monitor, please contact wokingenvironmentaction@yahoo.com and for latest updates, visit the Operation Owl Facebook page.
We are very grateful to have had the support of local people, Woking Borough Council and Horsell Common Preservation Society.
