WEAct Climate Hub

WEAct have opened Woking’s first ‘pop-up’ climate hub in the Town Centre. The ‘climate hub’ will be open until July 16th, and is a space to engage and educate people on the climate emergency and empower them to take local action.

The hub is in the former Thomas Cook travel agency in Mercia Walk, and is open from 10am – 2.30pm Tues – Fri, and from 10am – 4pm Sat.

Each week, the hub will be themed around one of the six life shifts encouraged by climate movement The Jump. They are:

  • Eating green: moving to a plant-based diet, avoiding food waste.
  • Dressing retro: purchasing only three new items of clothing per year.
  • Ending clutter: keeping products for at least seven years.
  • Travelling fresh: if possible, no personal motor vehicles.
  • Holidaying locally: one flight every three years.
  • Changing the system: embracing at least one life shift

Volunteering at the hub

To make the WEAct Hub a success, we need a wide range of volunteers for a host of different roles such as designing / building the hub interiors, manning the hub, providing social media support, admin, event support and volunteer co-ordination.

We are also keen that the hub is utilised by a wide range of people and groups, acting as a community connector bringing people together to work on common aims.

If you would like to volunteer with us you can join either our core or broadcast WhatsApp groups which will keep you up-to-date with all of our work.

To sign up to these or to find out more details about how you can help make the climate hub a success, please email your details to wokingenvironmentaction@yahoo.com

Please find a short briefing document which provides more details about the climate hub project and how you can get involved.
