News from Millmoor Common

Our volunteer who works at Millmoor Common was working in light rain out on the wild flower meadows early in the morning one day last week. That morning where our volunteer was working , a succession of geese flew overhead in Westfield, next to a new housing estate beside a farmer’s grass fields. The geese came for a grass breakfast. The first geese to arrive were a few grey Lag geese. These geese were joined by skeins of Canada geese, and then a pair of the most interesting Egyptian geese ( this goose nests in treees). Finally the host flocks of big white domestic geese being raised for Christmas dinners. All this fascinating action occured as our volunteer scythed this year’s spent flowers in the flower meadow, making it a very nice morning job.
