WEAct is run entirely by volunteers and so we are always looking for new people to join us.
We have a number of different ways for you to get involved which are detailed below. So if any of them are of interest to you, or you would like further information about what is involved please do let us know!
We look forward to hearing from you via our email
In the meantime, please keep up to date with our work on Instagram or Facebook (both @wokingenvironmentaction), Twitter (@actionwoking).

We are looking for local residents with different skills to be repair enthusiasts during our Woking Repair Café events.

We are looking for volunteers to help us to inspire the local community of Woking to reduce their use of single-use plastic.
Our projects will include working with local schools, businesses and other community groups as well as providing information, inspiration and support through outreach programmes, campaigns and events.

Come and join us at the Incredible Edible Kick-off event for 2023.

We are looking for volunteers who can help support the plots and also potentially lead community gardening days at the site.
Bring along a trowel and some gardening gloves if you have them.
We look forward to seeing you there!

Woking Hedgehogs aims to increase hedgehog numbers in Woking, by raising awareness of hedgehog friendly gardens.
Volunteers with this project can help by supporting awareness raising events (eg at school fetes) and/or the administration of loaning out of our wildlife cameras.

We have recently been running a Climate Emergency Centre in Woking Town Centre called the WEAct Hub and are hoping to re-open in a new location later this year. New volunteers are vital for us to be able re-open the hub by taking on shifts of usually around 2 or 3 hours to welcome and talk to visitors. (You would receive full training and be supported by a more experienced volunteer whilst you start.)
We also have a ‘core’ team of Hub volunteers who meet regularly over zoom to discuss the hub, upcoming events and administration requirements. We also have a What’s App group which you can join to get involved and receive zoom meeting links.

Our Climate Action Group acts as a critical friend to the council, scrutinising it’s climate action plan and making recommendations on how it can meet it’s net-zero goals. We also arrange events to raise awareness of climate change and its impacts, such as Woking Great Big Green Week. The group meets on the first Thursday of the month, either online or in person. We have a What’s App group that you can join to receive notification of our meetings.

Woking Biodiversity Group hosts regular practical outside volunteering days across Woking, including pulling up Balsam and planting wildflower. Volunteers are added to an e-mail distribution list and receive regular emails informing them of when volunteering days are taking place.

The Woking Owls Project has a number of owl boxes across the Woking Borough which need regular monitoring.
‘back-office’ roles
We also have a number of ‘back-office’ roles – perfect if you are looking to volunteer but can’t commit to specific times.
These include:
- Administrative support – answering e-mails, setting up eventbrites, taking actions, designing posters and flyers etc.
- Social media or website support – updating our Facebook, Instagram or Twitter Accounts. Maintaining our website – WordPress experience required.
- Fundraising – helping us write bid applications for different community funds.
- Charity status – WEAct would like to apply for charity status but we need volunteers to help us with our charity application.
- Ad-hoc data gathering projects.
