Hedgehogs are one of the most charismatic and best loved animals in the UK, but they are struggling. Numbers have dropped by potentially as much as 40% over the last decade, with loss of habitat being one of the main causes. Fortunately, there are plenty of actions you can take to support these amazing animals, helping to make Woking as hedgehog friendly as possible.
WEAct will be launching a new project in the Spring to coincide with Hedgehog Awareness Week from the 2nd -8th May. There will be a variety of ways to get involved, from reporting your hedgehog sightings and photos, to using footprint tunnels to monitor their presence, or even pledging to make holes in your garden fences to create Woking’s own system of hedgehog highways. This project is still under development, so if you have any ideas (either for the launch event during Hedgehog Week or how we could support hedgehogs more generally) please do get in touch by emailing wokingenvironmentaction@yahoo.com, we would love to hear from you!
We’ll be posting project updates over the next few weeks, with details of how you can get involved so do check back regularly, or like WEAct on Facebook or Twitter.
