Volunteer Opportunities

WEAct is run entirely by volunteers and so we are always looking for new people to join us.

We have a number of different ways for you to get involved which are detailed below. So if any of them are of interest to you, or you would like further information, please get in touch via our email.

In the meantime, you can keep up-to-date with us on Instagram or Facebook (both @wokingenvironmentaction).

Climate Action Group

Our Climate Action Group acts as a critical friend to the council, scrutinising its climate action plan and making recommendations on how it can meet its net-zero goals. We also arrange events to raise awareness of climate change and its impacts, such as Woking Great Big Green Week.
We have an active WhatsApp community and meet monthly, either online or in person. Please see here for more details.

Woking Hedgehogs

Woking Hedgehogs aims to increase hedgehog numbers in Woking, by raising awareness of hedgehog friendly gardens.

Volunteers with this project can help by supporting awareness raising events, e.g. at school fetes) or administering the lending of our wildlife cameras.

Please see here for more details.

WEAct Events

Could you help us organise events? These would include social events for members and also events for local residents which are usually linked to a theme eg Great Big Green Week in June 2026. Support provided. Please get in touch if you are interested.

Sustainable Byfleet

This project aims to bring together existing sustainable initiatives in the Byfleet area and develop and grow new ones.

Please see here for more details and get in touch if you’d like to join us.

WEAct on Plastic

This group urgently needs new volunteers to help it go forward. If you’re passionate about reducing plastic waste please have a look at our webpage.

Woking Wings

The Woking Wings project is currently supporting owls with a number of boxes across the Woking Borough.
Get in touch if you’d like to help with nesting box maintenance/monitoring, updating box records and nesting activity. Please see here for more details.

Woking Biodiversity Group

Woking Biodiversity Group hosts regular practical outside volunteering sessions across Woking’s green spaces, including pulling up Balsam and planting wildflowers. Volunteers can join an email distribution list to be kept informed of upcoming sessions. Please see here for more details.

WEAct Outreach

Outreach! Following on from our WEAct Hub Climate Emergency Centre in Woking Town Centre and our monthly sessions at Woking library, we now have pop-ups at our Repair Cafe sessions as well as at community events. We are always looking for volunteers for these 1- 3 hour sessions to talk to people about environmental concerns and what actions we can take. You will supported by a more experienced volunteer whilst you start.
