The Blue Heart Campaign

This national campaign, founded in response to the decline in biodiversity in the UK, encourages councils and the public to rewild their green spaces.

How to get involved

  • Identify grass verges and roundabouts near where you live, which are suitable to be left uncut.
  • Gain local resident support to rewild this area, especially people whose properties are directly in front of the proposed verge.
  • Contact the Council for an assessment to ensure this area is suitable โ€“ you can do this online.
  • Once approved, you can plant a blue heart sign in the verge.

๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’™ WEAct is offering a wooden blue heart sign to the first 20 approved requests from WEAct members. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’™

Once Approved

  • Council staff will record the Blue Heart location and notify the grass-cutting contractor who manages this verge to bypass this area on their route.
  • If a partial cut is needed for safety or access reasons, they will cut the sight lines or may reduce the cut to only a 1 metre strip along the road or pavement.
  • All verges, including Blue Heart locations, will have one full-width cut each Autumn.
