Woking Wings

This project, previously focussed on owls, is spreading its wings! Its scope is extending to include other flying animals such as bats and swifts that may benefit from having nest boxes provided for them.

Please contact nature@wokingenvironmentaction.org if you’d like to get involved in supporting additional animals.

Operation Owl

Paul Rimmer HCPS

Set up in 2014, this project now looks after ~20 nest boxes in various locations around Woking for tawny, little and barn owls. The boxes are monitored for nesting activity and maintained during the winter to encourage nesting.

In the UK, owl populations are in decline, due to changes in land management, with reduced availability of traditional nesting places, such as old trees and old barns. Owl boxes have become increasingly important for owls to use as nests.

Please contact nature@wokingenvironmentaction.org if you’d like to get involved; you could help with:

  • Nesting box maintenance
  • Updating box records and nesting activity
  • Nesting box moniroting.

We are very grateful to have had the support of local people, Woking Borough Council and Horsell Common Preservation Society.
